Great for Mac screen recordings

On a Mac, Smooth Recorder records a GIF of any part of your screen directly. Read how to record a GIF on Mac.

Questions, answered.

How do I turn a Mac screen recording into a GIF?

Drop the .mov file on the box above, pick the part you want, then choose Make GIF. Keep it short: a few seconds is usually enough.

Why won't my MOV open?

MOV is a container, and your browser has to support the video inside it. Most Mac screen recordings work. If yours doesn't, try another browser, or export it as H.264.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the file and makes the GIF on your device, so the video never reaches our server.

Why is my GIF bigger than the video?

GIF is an old format that stores video far less efficiently. To shrink one, make it shorter, narrower or lower its frame rate. Around 640 pixels wide at 10 to 15 frames per second suits most uses.

Does the GIF keep its sound?

No. GIFs can't hold sound. If the sound matters, share the video instead.
